Uninor is the fastest growing mobile operator in India who provides services in six circles across the country. The company has grown to the 4th position in the revenue and customer market share. The big brand now has the new global identity and changes the name to Telenor.
“Sabse Sasta” the brand slogan brings more value to the market of mass consumers and kicks off to a new campaign with a new tagline “Ab life full paisa vasool”! The new brand identity has been introduced by Telenor India today. The company has retained its dominant position as the most affordable operator in India and has continued to deliver excellence in fairs and easily customized services.
Previously, Uninor was the 100% subsidiary mobile operator of the Norwegian telecom company – Telenor. It is one of the world’s largest telecom companies and providing its services in 13 countries worldwide. The contribution of Telenor India is 6% of the total global revenue of Telenor and it is also 12% in the Asian region for the company.
The six circles of India in which Telenor is providing its services are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, UP West, UP East and Bihar. Telenor has over 47.5 million subscribers in India today in the above six circles which cover the 50 percent of the total population of India. The company is looking ahead to expand its services for other circles of India too in the near future. In this move, the company has acquired a new circle, Assam in February 2014, and the company has started the services in Assam along with an extra additional spectrum in four of its existing circles.
The main three pillars of the company’s strategy are – best in basic services, low cost of operation and mass market contribution, as the Telenor India’s CEO Vivek Sood said. “After the fiasco of 2012, the company went through a difficult time period, but Telenor continued to invest as a committed shareholder and the company has refreshed its brand identity. Today, we’re the #1 telecom operator in price preparation terms”, Sood added.
For the re-branding of the company, Telenor will spend nearly to Rs 100 crore in India. And the company will also extend the call drop service for all calls – local, STD and ISD as the previous offer was for the local calls only.
Currently, the company offers 2G internet plans in all of its circles. Telenor provides best affordable tariffs for the 2G/Edge platform among all telecom service providers in India. The company is looking ahead to introduce more sophisticated services in 3G and as the demand seems more. The company invests a big part of its revenue in the network and technology research to become future ready. “The company is waiting for the sufficient spectrum in contiguous blocks in relevant frequency bands which are at the correct place for the new technology to be rolled out”, Vivek Sood.
Uninor is the second largest for the Telenor group in the number of subscribers and contributes around 4 percent of the company’s total revenue. In the last month, the company gave a contract to a Chinese firm Huawei worth of Rs. 1200 crore to manage and modernize Telenor’s network across the six circles in India with a time frame of three years. The first stage of the project includes the modernization of 5,000 mobile tower sites of Telenor. The 16,000 other mobile tower sites will be covered in the year of 2016.
In the year of 2013, Uninor became the first mobile operator service to post a positive operating cash flow in four years of launch. Now, Uninor turned into Telenor and the company is expanding its vision to consolidate their operations.
