Short Answer: Yes, it is true that Reliance has withdrawn its ‘Summer Surprise’ plan for the Jio customers after TRAI has issued an order for the same. So, if you are new to Jio or did not have enrolled for the Prime plan and yet not recharged with Rs. 303 or higher value plans, then you may not get the complimentary three months free service for voice and data.
Detailed truth about the end of Reliance Jio Summer Surprise offer
Let’s get to the detailed answer and see what about the existing Jio Prime customers and the customers who have already recharged to get the free complimentary services, what they will get?
In last year after Diwali, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani has surprised the whole nation with their new telecommunication service Reliance Jio in which the consumers got free voice and data* on their 4G handsets till Dec 2016. Later, this offer was extended till March 31, 2017.
The company also has later announced that if the users recharge with Rs. 99 before 31 March 2017 then they will be enrolled to a one-year Jio Prime membership and enjoy the SMS, Voice, and Data services from Reliance at very cheap rates. The company also has launched different voice and data plans to give benefits to the consumers.
What is Summer Surprise Offer? Why TRAI ordered to stop it?
On the last day of Reliance Jio Welcome Offer i.e. on March 31, 2017, Mukesh Ambani launched a new offer called ‘Summer Surprise” for the Reliance Jio customers. In this, the time limit to enroll with prime was extended to April 15, 2017. Also, if the customers recharge with Rs. 303 or higher value plans, then they will get three months free complimentary services till June 2017, and their existing recharge will be valid from the July 2017.
But, in the first week of April 2017, the latest news arrived that TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has issued an order to stop the summer surprise offer which made a significant impact on the business of other major telecom services like BSNL, Vodafone, Airtel, IDEA, etc. The major telecom operators also have launched some cool recharge plans to give tough competition to Reliance Jio (Check Jio Vs BSNL Vs Airtel Vs Vodafone Recharge Plans). But, the Summer Surprise offer was another masterstroke from the giant Industry of the world.
For the customers who enrolled with Jio Prime
Mukesh Ambani has accepted the decision made by TRAI and announced to withdraw the summer surprise offer. But If you have recharged already to avail the complimentary free service for three months, then you will not be affected by this as you will still get the benefits announced for the offer.
If you have not enrolled for the prime membership and/or not recharged with the Rs. 303 or higher plans, then also you may get this offer from the Reliance Jio website or MyJio application on your mobile. I do not know which date is last to avail this complimentary offer from MyJio app as the official news has not arrived yet, so it is advisable that you recharge as soon as possible if you want to continue with Jio and get benefited for the three months free Voice and Data* services.
